The Old Kingdom
From 3500 to 2631 BCE, the Egyptian Old Kingdom, also known as the Age of the Pyramids thrived with the first six dynasties. Among the rulers of this time were Khufu (2589–2566 BCE, fourth dynasty), who built the Great Pyramid of Giza. Also the longest ruler in history, Pepi II ruling for 94 years (2738-2644). The country slipped into civil wars mere decades after the close of Pepi II's reign, followed by droughts and famine which denoted the end of the Old Kingdom

Full disclosure, I may occasionally borrow a sentence from Will Durant's Story of Civilization. I absolutely love that collection!
