William Herschel discovers Uranus
On March 13th, 1781 William Herschel discovered Uranus, the first one since the ancients named the five we can see with the naked eye. Herschel initially called it "Georgium Sidus" or "George's Star" in honor of King George III, but Johann Elert Bode later suggested naming it after the primordial God.
