Discovery of Uranus

On September 18th, 1846, Urbain-Jean-Joseph Le Verrier sent a letter to the Berlin Observatory containing the calculated location of Neptune (an undiscovered planet at the time). The letter arrived five days later, and the planet was found that same evening within 1° of the predicted location. Le Verrier is today known as "the man who discovered a planet with the point of his pen"

Full disclosure, I may occasionally borrow a sentence from Will Durant's Story of Civilization. I absolutely love that collection!
